Opportunity

Lux Research is an industry-leading research and advisory firm that helps clients make critical decisions with data-backed insights. The firm’s clients rely on its library of more than 16,000 primary-source research documents—and unmetered inquiry sessions with the experts who wrote those documents.

"Clients can ask them questions on any topic we cover, validate ideas, bounce opinions off of them, and gain deeper insights," says Tim Cadran, VP of Product Management and Engineering at Lux Research. "That’s what drives our business. It’s the most powerful element of our offering."

However, while Lux Research had a deep library of research and brilliant experts, the firm knew the user journey had room for optimization. “Our customer portal was almost exclusively a search and retrieve platform,” Cadran says of the former process. “Our clients logged into our site, typed in a search, and hoped the results were good.”

Wading through dense, detailed research documents took longer than many busy business leaders could afford.

Booking analyst time was also time-consuming and heavily manual: Clients would email their Customer Success Manager, discuss the subject and details, and eventually book time through a series of communications. Because of this, 75% of inquiries took more than seven days to schedule, and only 10% were scheduled within 48 hours.

Solution

Lux Research partnered with FullStack Labs to develop an AI-driven solution that would enhance its client experience. “FullStack didn’t bring just an extension of our internal development team,” says Marisa Kopec, CEO of Lux Research, “They acted as true partners and true advisors.”

Before engaging in full-scale production, Lux Research began its journey with an AI Proof of Concept (PoC) to validate the product's feasibility. Once the PoC proved viable for Lux Research's high-accuracy requirements, the team moved to production.

The result of this collaboration was Luxer, an AI-powered research assistant that enhances both search and scheduling processes.

It features an intuitive conversational interface where clients can ask questions about any topic Lux Research has to offer and receive a cited, trustworthy response in seconds.

Designed for reliability, Luxer pulls only from Lux Research's proprietary data, ensuring insights are based exclusively on the research library. Cadran emphasizes, "Luxer will only generate insights based on information in our library of proprietary research.” Every insight generated by Luxer includes citations linking clients to the original source Luxer drew from—making it a stand-out example of responsible AI in its field.

Luxer also automates expert scheduling. “It will map the discussion topics to the subject matter expert that covers those topics," says Cadran. "It then allows the user to schedule their inquiry, giving the client full control to pick the date and time.” With this feature, clients can instantly book analyst inquiries, streamlining expertise access.

"FullStack acted as true partners and advisors. The expertise around AI and the level of developers, engineers—whatever role it was that came to the table—was just phenomenal."
